It's time to stress less
As the pressures of life increase and we become progressively busier, Lifeline Australia is urging Australians to recognise sources of stress in their lives and ‘dress to stress less’ on Tuesday 24 July.
*The Lifeline Australia National Stress Poll 2015 found that 77% respondents experienced some stress due to work, followed by 72% of respondents experiencing stress due to finances.
According to Sarah Graham, Act-Belong-Commit's Partnerships Manager, stress is a natural human reaction.
“Stress can help to increase the alertness and energy required to meet the demands of challenging situations. When stress is ongoing however, it can compromise our coping abilities and have a negative impact on health and well-being.”
Stress Down Day is encouraging people to take time out of their busy lives to have fun and reduce stress, while raising funds and awareness for Lifeline Australia. Simply wear your slippers, your pyjamas or favourite stress-less outfit to work on 24 July.
“Being aware of life’s stressors and reflecting on ways to reduce pressure and better respond to life’s challenges are important steps in managing stress. Eating a healthy balanced diet, regular exercise and doing things you enjoy all help increase our ability to control the effects of stress” she said.
“Keeping active, having a sense of belonging and a sense of meaning and purpose in life helps us to cope with problems and stress. It can be as easy as A-B-C, Act-Belong-Commit” she added.
